DIY Natural Cleaning Solutions

Using DIY natural cleaning solutions are as effective if not better than other products, as they are non-toxic, cost effective and environmentally friendly.  Initially, you may feel overwhelmed with the choice. However, once you begin to research you will soon discover what products are best for your home.

One of the biggest advantages of natural cleaning products is the limited items that you will need in your cupboards. The cleaning regime is also far easier, and you will have more time to yourself by simply switching to a few basic products that you may even have in your cupboards. There are four key items that can be used for cleaning every area in your home.

 White Vinegar

This kitchen essential is considered to be one of the best natural cleaners that you can use. Not only is it versatile but incredibly frugal, and one bottle goes a long way around your home. You will need to mix the vinegar with water to create the perfect solution for every surface, window, worktop and mirror.

There are some surfaces that you cannot use the vinegar on, and these include granite and marble as they are porous. The white vinegar is excellent at cutting through grease in the kitchen, and perfect for lime scale in the bathroom. You will also discover that this solution is excellent for stainless steel fixtures, and can be used to remove stains from carpets.

At first there will be a distinct aroma when you use the vinegar, however, this goes quickly, and if it bothers you too much, you can add essential oil to the mixture. The vinegar can also be used to help rinse dishes in the dishwasher, and will ensure that they are residue free. Whilst doing your laundry, you can replace shop bought softeners with white vinegar to produce soft linen.

Baking Soda

Baking-Soda

This is an item that many households own, but remarkably few know what to do with it, so it sits at the back of the kitchen cupboard. This is an ideal replacement for abrasive cleaners, and should be stored and used in a shakeable container. You can use the powder on its own, or mixed into a paste for tougher stains.

You will soon discover that baking soda can be used for numerous cleaning tasks including toilet cleaning. All you need is baking powder shook into the toilet bowl and a toilet brush to scrub and you will have a spotless toilet in no time.

The powder is also excellent for whitening sink enamel, cleaning glass stove tops and removing burnt food. Carpets and floor coverings will also benefit from the baking soda being sprinkled, left and vacuumed as they will be fresh and clean. For a distinct aroma add some of your favourite essential oil to the baking soda.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen-Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is a substance that you may never have heard of, but it is excellent to have at home. If you want something disinfected this is the substance to use, but it must be stored in an opaque bottle as it breaks down in sunlight. Cleaning the bathroom and kitchen with diluted peroxide will guarantee that they are clean and germ free.

You may need to use a second cleaner for tough stains and dirt, but if you want a safe disinfectant this is ideal. You will also discover that a mix of peroxide and water can be used for stain removal on rugs and carpets. Even dark stains such as blood and red wine can be removed with this solution.

Natural Dish Soap

You may use this for washing your dishes. However, it can be used in many other areas of your home. It cuts through grease easily and can be diluted and placed in a spray bottle for every occasion. In the kitchen, you can use this solution for cleaning work surfaces, cookers, and sinks. Stain removal is another area that this household solution is good for; however, some stains will be too tough to remove.
