Getting Rid of Stink Bugs Naturally

As fall and winter approach here in the States, these little creatures will be searching for warmth for the winter , and thus, become a common problem for most homeowners. Are you looking for natural ways to get rid of stink bugs? If so, you’ve come to the right place! I have packed 4 natural remedies into this article to help you clean your home of these vile critters.

Diatomaceous Earth:

Diatomaceous Earth has a lot of uses. This chalky powder is made from diatoms fossils, and can be used to get rid of a variety of household pests, such as stink bugs.

Stink bugs usually get together in areas like doors and windows. So, you need to sprinkle diatomaceous earth in places such as these.

This powder is effective due to its ability to break down the protective layer on a bug’s exoskeleton, causing the bug to dehydrate, and ultimately die.

Diatomaceous Earth is an inexpensive product to help you get rid of stink bugs in your home.

Garlic powder:

Garlic is another remedy to treat stink bugs. The odor the garlic emits does a good job at repelling a variety of bugs, once again, including stink bugs.  Garlic Powder is what I prefer, since the granularity allows me to apply it in hard to reach places, however diced cloves will do the trick as well.  Another suggestion is to make a garlic spray: all you need to do is fill up a spray bottle with a solution of 4 tablespoons of garlic powder and 2 cups of fresh water, shake the bottle, and apply.

Once the solution is ready, spray it onto the doorways, soil, plant leaves, and other places where stink bugs are most likely to be seen. In order to keep the bugs away, spray the solution on the target areas with an interval of 2 to 3 days. Again, this natural remedy won’t cost an arm and a leg and does not contain any harmful chemicals.

Catnip powder:

If you have a garden, catnip can be grown and used as a remedy to stink bugs. Alternatively, you can go to your nearest grocery store to buy some catnip powder, which may be the only option come winter time. Like the garlic remedy mentioned earlier, using catnip powder to keep stink bugs away from your house is a piece of cake.

Get some catnip powder and sprinkle it around your home and garden in order to prevent the nasty insects from getting into your home and bothering your family.

Dish Detergent:

Dish detergent is used for dishwashing. But it can also be used for keeping stink bugs at arm’s length.

You can buy dish detergent from the grocery store and use it to create a bug repellant spray. All you need to do is mix liquid dish detergent (10 drops) and 2 cups of water in a medium-sized spray bottle. Once you have put both the water and dish detergent in the bottle, shake the bottle well to make sure the solution is mixed and ready.

Stink bugs sit on plants leaves, and get into your house through windows and doors. So, you need to spray the solution on windowsills, plants leaves and in your doorways.

Additionally, the solution works as an adhesive, which will allow your solution to stick to the leaves of plants and let the effect last longer. Spray the solution twice per week to repel the bugs.

So, use the above 4 natural remedies to keep your house safe from stink bugs in winter. Hope this helps – Hank out.
