National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

Hello to all my loyal readers! I was recently approached about a really great philanthropic event that I just had to share with all of you. I have never heard of this as an “official” holiday before, but I have always participated in one way or another, either (way) back in college or back when I was working in an office environment.

Ugly Christmas sweaters. What comes to mind? Hot, stuffy wool clinging to your neck while you roast next to the fire? Grandma knitting away the night to make sure your sweater is done and ready to be gifted by Christmas? National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day will definitely change your mind about those tacky holiday sweaters. Ugly Christmas sweaters have been around for decades, but only until recently can wearing an ugly Christmas sweater allow you to give back.

December 12th, 2014 – a day filled with Christmas cheer, family, and friends – will be the fourth annual National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. It started as a fun holiday by a group of ugly Christmas sweater lovers, but since has become a way to help children in need across the world. National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day recently partnered with Save the Children in a campaign called “Make the World Better with a Sweater.” Wearing a sweater allows participants to be “ugly” for a cause. Grab a sweater or make your own and wear it on December 12th. Make sure to spread the word about why you’re wearing your sweater and go online to make a donation to Save the Children.

This holiday also offers great family benefits. Throw an ugly Christmas sweater and invite family and friends. Spend some time with your kids by having a DIY Christmas sweater night. Whatever you decide to do, remember to have fun this holiday season and stay ugly.

So do you guys have any ugly Christmas sweaters lying around?  I’d love to see all the hideous sweaters!

Edit: If you need an ugly Christmas sweater I highly recommend checking out Tipsy Elves….they were on Shark Tank!!

I actually have ugly sweaters at home and I love it. I tend to wear them around Christmas. I had no idea there was a day for it. Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful idea! I had no idea that Save the Children had partnered or had such an event. Will definitely be sharing with my readers as well so that we can all participate. Now, where did I hide that ugly sweater……

We have Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties every year. They are tons of fun. I love that there is now a day set aside for this 🙂
