I’m Back! Blog Update and My Next Project

Hello to all my readers out there; so sorry I have been away for so long, but I’ve got some big news! I am a few days away from becoming a landlord. That’s right, me and my beautiful bride have finally bitten the bullet and decided to put our money into the purchase of a second home. That’s right serfs, I’m on my way to becoming a noble property owner and renter extraordinaire (ignore my poor attempt at feudalism humor).

This venture hasn’t been easy or quick, hence my absence for the past good chunk of time. I thought finding a property to purchase would be a piece of cake, but not so much. After months of searching and plenty of nights sitting at the kitchen table and working on a budget, my lovely wife and I found the right property about five hours from our home in a quiet lakeside town. It’s not a huge place, but it’s near the water and the price was definitely right, and I’m thinking it’s definitely going to be a worthy investment.

With all this being said, I wanted to take a moment and let you guys know I will be taking my blog in a new direction. From now on, I will chronicle my journey as a regular guy turned landlord, and fill my pages with DIY projects for both landlords and renters to show how you can make the most out of your property. I’ve got many plans for my new purchase, and I can’t wait to get started, get my hands dirty, and find my new tenants to make this a worthy investment.

Not only will I talk about my rental property projects, but I’ll also touch on my struggles and successes when it comes to taking care of two houses, and being away from my personal home for extended periods of time as we get the house ready for its first tenants.

I’ve been putting my nose to the grindstone and researching how to be a landlord, with all the necessities that come along with it, including tenant screening and other essential landlord advice. I’m looking forward to meeting and chatting with other landlords and putting some of their experience and knowledge into great use. I know this won’t always be an easy or stress-free road, but we are ready for this undertaking and plan to jump in with both feet no matter what issues come our way. I know having a house out of town will present its own unique set of challenges, but I’m excited to encounter these and start this exciting new chapter of my life.

Just as a heads up to you readers, I won’t be posting complete photos of my property out of respect to my upcoming lovable tenants—I would never want to invade their privacy or endanger their safety. I’ll stick to just my DIY projects, articles about my adventures in this new world, and tips for any of you out there who might be interested in doing the same. Follow me on my journey and let’s all cross our fingers that the road to landlord success is a smooth one!
