Blogging Tips for Other Home Improvement Blogs

Home improvement blogging is often quite the ordeal. Most people do not have 10-15K to spend on a new project every week. With that said, there are a number of other tactics that bloggers can use to boost their presence online and help propel their sites to earn more visitors.

Over the last few years here is what I have learned:

Make Friends with People in the Industry

Every blogger needs a few friends. Even is their blogs look alike!

This is often a lot easier said than done. However, there are several important benefits. Other bloggers and other home improvement sites are often in need of content. It is possible to help create content for them and in return, you may earn yourself a mention or link.
If you have a great resource on a topic that someone may want to share with their readers, then send it over. From what I have read from Google and other marketing websites, becoming a thought leader in your industry is a great way to build your site authority. This starts with backlinks to your site. From what I have read on Moz.com and other sites, links give your site “Link Juice” There is a great resource on “link juice” that I came across as well.
A few other great resources for other ways to build smart links to your site can be found here.

Blog – A LOT

Much like cocktails, you can always tweak your content to find great new ideas!

You don’t need $10k to make a good piece of content for your site. Even if you just want to clean your kitchen, write about it! Do you already have a post on kitchen cleaning? Add to it with each new experience.

From what I have learned, Google love content. It is often cited as one of the top three/four ranking factors. Some people are even saying that there are 7 major ranking factors in 2017.

Moral of the story here is to read, write, and learn!

Create an Internal Company Blog

Internal company blogs are the perfect way to perfect your blogging skills! It also brings your team together by keeping everyone in the loop about what’s going on in the company. Try using a platform like BlogIn to get started quickly and seamlessly.

BlogIn is a beautifully simple internal blog and knowledge-sharing platform for teams of all sizes. The internal blog acts as a central information hub or a ‘virtual bulletin board’ for the company, allowing all employees to stay in the loop with what’s going on in and around the office. At the same time, the blog opens a new, transparent, two-way communication channel inside an organization, where everyone can ask a question and get the information they need to make faster and smarter decisions. The internal blog is intuitive and easy to use, so everyone can quickly get on board, which is one of the reasons why it works so well as the internal communication tool. And don’t forget, there are tools out there that help track metrics for your site.

Finally, Look for Content Gaps

Everyone and their mother has written about how to make an addition to your house. Everyone writes about gardening. However, if you can find very specific topics that do not have a strong base of articles in Google’s results, there will be new site visitors in your future.

For example, there are a lot of articles on how to paint a room. But are there a lot of good articles on how to paint accents in a light blue room? Keyword research may show that there is not a lot of volume for this type of thing.

However, I can promise you that people will search for specific terms that are related to a major topic. In this example, people need to paint accents in their blue rooms. After they pick a blue room where will they turn to next? Google! Hopefully, your article will be there!

Travel A Lot (and Write About it)

Travel blogging is a great way to learn about other locations, meet other bloggers, and add new content to your site. Create a section about travel blogging and reach out to other bloggers in the location of your travels. Who knows! You might even get some free stuff out of the deal! Once you have a few pieces of content you can begin to reach out to businesses and ask if they would be intered in a piece from your point of view.

Here are a few resources to get started:

Until next time friends!
